Which rule set should you pick in WoW Forever?
Pick Normal, PvP or RP at launch based on how you want to play, and know that PvP is the only one with faction balancing controls confirmed. Pick Hardcore only when it arrives in winter, because it is a separate ecosystem that does not share your Legacy or collections.
The four rule sets compared
| Rule set | Available | Faction balancing | Legacy and collections | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | At launch | Not stated | Account-wide | Players only fight when both agree to it. |
| PvP | At launch | Yes, balancing controls | Account-wide | No extra details confirmed. |
| RP | At launch | Not stated | Account-wide | No extra details confirmed. |
| Hardcore | After launch, in winter | Not stated | Kept separate | Achievements sync out to non-Hardcore, not back in. A character that dies can transfer to a softcore rule set. |
There are no realms to choose
Forever is realmless. You pick a rule set, not a server. You group with players inside your rule set and your faction, and you cannot group across rule sets or factions. Faction balance works in a similar way to Season of Discovery.
Language preference
You set a language preference, and the game phases players who share a language together.
Names are first plus last, unique across your region
Characters have two-part names, a first name and a last name, and the pair is unique region-wide. Early name reservation opens on 2026-10-27 and closes on 2026-11-03. Need ideas? Try the two-part name generator.
What follows you between rule sets
Legacy progression and collections are account-wide on Normal, PvP and RP. Hardcore is the exception. Its achievements sync to your non-Hardcore characters, but nothing flows the other way.
What happens when a Hardcore character dies
A Hardcore character that dies can transfer to a softcore rule set.
